Usually, refractive errors keep us from doing simple tasks, enjoy outdoor activities and some sports, causing discomforts both functional and aesthetic. We would like to talk about Wavelight LASIK, laser eye surgery, the most precise vision correction procedure; and the best investment you can do for yourself.
Wavelight LASIK refractive surgery is a safe and fast recovery procedure performed outpatient. The most popular eye surgery with high rates of success, and patient satisfaction, to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The procedure creates a partial-thickness corneal flap, and with an excimer laser, the bed of the cornea is ablated; finally, the flap is placed back into its original position.
Wavelight LASIK Refractive Surgery is the best choice to restore vision, leaving behind the dependance on contact lenses and prescription glasses.
Possible complications and side effects
Just like any other surgical procedure there are, rarely, possible complications and side effects. Among them, temporary dry eye syndrome and visual disturbances like halos, may occur. But usually go away from a couple of weeks up to 4 months. With Wavelight LASIK these tend to be very rare.
Dry Eye Syndrome: Wavelight LASIK surgery decreases the tear production resulting in a temporary dry eye syndrome, that can be eased with daily and frequent use of lubricant eye drops for as long as the ophthalmologist considers necessary; or until the eye is completely healed.
Even after healing, an increased dry eye symptoms might persist. If the discomfort increases, we recommend you to make an appointment with your ophthalmologist for an evaluation.
Halos and Double Vision: it is one of the most common side effects that prevents you from driving at night due to photophobia (extreme light sensibility), or being outdoors under sunlight. These symptoms last from a few days to a few weeks. If the symptoms persist, consult your ophthalmic surgeon and make an appointment for a checkup.
Undercorrections: Is the result of removing little tissue from the eye, and is more common for those who are nearsighted. If the Lasik surgery wasn’t properly performed, you might need another surgery called “enhancement”, in order to remove more tissue.
Overcorrections: In this case the laser removes too much tissue from the eye, and is far more difficult to resolve than undercorrections. The surgeon lifts the flap and performs a second ablation. It is usually performed after 3 months once the refraction stabilizes.
